The suit, brought by the Breathitt County School District in Kentucky, claimed that the platforms' addictive designs disrupted learning and worsened a youth mental health crisis, forcing schools to spend millions on counseling and disciplinary measures. Terms of the deal remain confidential.

Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, did not join the settlement and faces a trial in the same case, which is considered a bellwether for more than 1,000 similar lawsuits across the United States.
