Google's next-generation Pixel 11 lineup is reportedly set to receive a significant memory downgrade — with leaked specifications indicating a base configuration of just 8GB of RAM, down from the 12GB found in the current Pixel 10 series. The reduction is attributed to an ongoing global RAM shortage that has been squeezing smartphone manufacturers for months.
According to leaked documents shared by the well-known tipster MysticLeaks and cited by Android Headlines, the standard Pixel 11 will start with 8GB of RAM. Higher-end models — the Pixel 11 Pro, Pro XL, and Pro Fold — may also see cuts, with base configurations dropping from 16GB to 12GB. A 16GB option is still expected, but at a potentially higher price point.
"This is a clear sign that the memory supply chain is under severe pressure," said Dr. Rina Patel, a semiconductor supply analyst at TechInsights. "Google is forced to make trade-offs, and consumers may feel the pinch in both performance and pricing."
Background: The RAM Shortage That Won't End
The global shortage of DRAM chips — the type of memory used for RAM — began in earnest in late 2024 and has now extended into 2025. While widely expected to ease, supply constraints have persisted due to surging demand from AI servers, automotive electronics, and high-end PCs.
Smartphone makers have been particularly affected. Several flagship devices from major brands have already seen RAM reductions or price increases. Google's Pixel line, known for its competitive pricing and long software support, is the latest casualty.
Industry insiders note that while 8GB RAM remains sufficient for most daily tasks, the trend toward on-device AI and multitasking has made higher memory a selling point. What This Means for Consumers

The company's software optimizations — including aggressive background app handling — could help the 8GB Pixel 11 feel snappier than its specs suggest.
